I bought the Lega tribe collection from a teacher in the D. R. Congo. He had worked for 20 years with the Lega and lived among them. He had acquired the bag with all the figures in this span of time, partly from members of the Bwami society, partly from families of his schoolboys. His knowledge of art was mixed.

In any case he only wanted to sell the bag (in which there were game-bags in leather with bone masks and other objects slightly rotten) as a whole. He thought of financing the study of his children.

The objects are genuine (authentic). There is nothing comparable to be found from the middle of the 20th century.

Some Lega objects were appraised by a former curator of a well-known German museum, for others there is a correspondence with D. Biebuyck.
